Organize students into groups to complete the following group activities:
- Did You Get the Message?
Organize students into groups of about 10 and give them the handout Did You Get the Message? When the groups have had a chance to complete the activity, select a group or two to demonstrate the method they used to complete the activities.
- Put It in Your Packet
Organize students into groups of about five. The first part of the handout requires two groups to work together. The last part has four groups working together. Give students the handout Put It in Your Packet. (This activity is also found in the Student Handouts section.)
- Information Quality
Organize the students into groups of five. Have the members of each group individually research the same topic (you can choose it or have them choose it) using the Internet as their only source. Have the group meet and share links or printouts of what they've found. The group should work as a team to decide which sources are the best sources and which should be eliminated because the source isn't reliable or the information is poor in quality. Have each group present to the class samples of the information they kept and the information they discarded, and tell why.
