A century ago, the tools for literacy were pen and paper. But literacy has taken on new meaning in the twenty-first century, says Colin Stewart, head of the Visual Arts and Media Department at Kenmore State High School. Today's tools for literacy include digital cameras and computerized editing equipment, he says, along with the skills of critical thinking and teamwork.
