This scoring guide will be used to assess your parallel story rewrites and multimedia presentations.

Writes purposefully and skillfully from a different perspective using an alternative ending, setting, and/or plot sequence for the novel The Pearl.

Uses details and creativity to make the story of The Pearl "new" while retaining all of its universal elements.

Examines multiple relationships such as cause and effect, sequence-time, comparisons, classifications, and generalizations in order to develop believable characters and advance the plot.

Uses both symbolism and the parable story form to clearly illustrate a moral attitude or a religious principle.

Uses point of view, language, and characterization consistently to shape the story.

Makes the story of The Pearl "new" while retaining some of its universal elements.

Includes a final series of slides that effectively summarizes highlights from the stories and illustrates in detail how story elements parallel the characters, setting, and plotline from The Pearl.

Includes images and sound effects or music to enhance and add meaning and emphasis to the story and overall presentation. Careful planning has gone into the selection of fonts, graphics, sounds, and other animated features.

Fails to include images, sound effects, or music, or the selection of fonts, graphics, sounds, and other animated features are frequently inappropriate or detract from the content of the presentation.
