Monitor and listen carefully to students’ discussions to evaluate thinking. Ask probing questions as needed. Take anecdotal notes on their thinking processes.

Use math journals as a means to capture student thinking and assess mathematical understanding as they progress through the unit. Review student journal entries, Visual Ranking comments, and maps to monitor progress, target areas for instruction, and provide timely feedback. Preview drafts, and give students feedback as they work through project activities. Have students periodically check work with their teammates and make appropriate revisions based on the feedback they receive.

Have students use the final project rubric and student checklist, to self assess their work before submitting it. Ask students to complete a self-reflection at the conclusion of the project.

Once projects have been submitted, use the final project rubric to complete a final assessment.
